The Edinburgh University Orienteering Club was founded in 1964. Since then it has grown to be the largest University orienteering club in the country, and has had enormous success. We have won BUCs 8 years running from 2006-2013, and have won many times previously. Notable alumni include Yvette Baker, who won the 1999 World Orienteering Championships and Scott Fraser, who won a silver medal in the sprint event in the World Orienteering Championships. Numerous other alumni and current members have achieved excellent results in the World Orienteering Championships and the Junior World Championships. The club’s flagship event is the Edinburgh Big Weekend, organised by the club Captain. This is the 3rd largest sprint event in the UK, and attracts orienteers from across the country.
The club had its annual alumni event on 12th – 13th October 2013, which was a success. The year 2014 is an important year for the club, as it’s our 50th anniversary, and a large celebratory event, including a ceilidh and a dinner, is being organised in conjunction with the Edinburgh City Event – Race the Castles in October.
On 24th – 26th January 2014 is our flagship event, the Big Weekend, in Edinburgh.
